Q: Are all volunteers required to have a criminal background check?
A: A criminal background check shall be performed for each volunteer who has regular and frequent contact with students; unsupervised or one-on-one contact with students; or serves in a supervisory role.

Q: Are volunteers required to pay for the criminal background check?
A: Yes, the cost is $10.

Q: Is the District requiring volunteers to undergo a criminal background check every year?
A: The District may perform updated criminal background checks on volunteers on an annual basis without further cost to the volunteer.

Q: Will volunteers be required to fill out all the paperwork on an annual basis?
A: Volunteers will not be required to fill out additional paperwork unless there is a change in the personal information (i.e. address) of the volunteer.

Q: If I have already undergone a criminal background check for my church or other non-profit organization, do I have to undergo an additional check to volunteer?
A: The District will be using the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Family Care Safety Registry. If your criminal background check was performed through this agency, the District will require your name and social security number to verify that the check has been completed. No fee will be required. If your criminal background check was completed by a different agency, you will still be required to conduct a criminal background check.

Q: If I volunteer at my child’s field day event, do I need a criminal background check?
A: Because field day is also supervised by employees and only occurs once per year, volunteers will not need a criminal background check. The remainder of the volunteer paperwork will need to be completed.

Q: If I am volunteering at a PTA-sponsored event that is not held during the school day, do I need to complete the volunteer application packet?
A: No, because these are PTA events, the District does not need to manage the volunteers for these events. Therefore, the volunteer application is not required. This would include bonfire, Project Graduation, PTA Run/Walk and afterschool carnivals, to name a few.

Q: If I am volunteering at a PTA-sponsored event that is held during the school day, do I need to complete the volunteer application packet?
A: Yes. The volunteer application is required, but not the criminal background check. Examples include snack cart, or PTA parents being on-campus selling Six Flags tickets, etc.

Q: To volunteer in 2009-10, do I need a new picture ID?
A: No. Please see your school secretary or the District Communications Department for an update sticker for your ID. Those stickers will be available prior to the beginning of the 2009-10 school year.
