Algebra and Pre-algebra 8A-Mrs. Sager/Mrs. Meyer/Mrs. Lanzarini
Welcome back! We will begin the year with the book, Thinking with Mathematical Models, which reviews concepts from the previous year and builds the students’ knowledge of linear relationships. We require the students to have notebook paper, graph paper, pencils, and a scientific calculator. When we finish this book we will start on Looking for Pythagoras, regarding right triangles and areas. We will go through about eight books this year, constantly working to prepare students for high school. As always if you have any concerns or questions please call or email us. Thanks!
English 8A-Mr. Kessler/Mrs. Gross/Ms. Perkins
Our curriculum incorporates reading, writing, listening, and speaking. There is a strong emphasis on reading in eighth grade. Students are asked to read 30 minutes each night, and we read an additional 10-15 minutes each day in class. Students will also be completing two reading projects each trimester to enhance this reading experience. Our first objective takes students through the writing process, which we apply throughout the year. Students learn a variety of reading skills, and the year culminates with a research project.
