Welcome to the page for Ms. Hayes Communication Arts Team 7B!!
On this page you will find a copy of the Reading Response selections and due dates. Links to help your student at home, Scholastic Books, and theTEEN ZONE at the St. Louis County Library, how to determine if a book is on your child's lexile level, help with grammar and research papers. information if your student is in the gifted program, and interactive sites for your student.
Reading is essential to our very existence in this technological world. The more we read the better writers we become. Parents I challenge you to have your students reading daily even in the summer!! They can lose what they have learned if they do not keep their minds actively engaged in a book. Check out your local St. Louis County Library for year round programs that will benefit any age group.
Seen It/Read It!! Did you know many popular movies were books for Adolescent/Young Adults??
Bridge to Terabinthia, Harry Potter, Holes, Saving Shilo, Speak (made for TV), Cirque de Freak; the Vampire's Apprentice, The Twilight Saga, My Sister's Keeper, The Lovely Bones, Sounder, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, The Princess Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Chronicles of Narnia (there's actually 7 books), The Outsiders, The Secret Garden,The Princess and the Frog, The Secret of NIMH (Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH), Ramona and Beezus............
A great activity would be to have your student read the book BEFORE taking him/her to see the movie. After the book has been read and the movie seen have a discussion with your student in which he/she will compare and contrast the two. This is a great way to see if your student comprehended what he/she read and saw.
I am here to help your student excel to the best of his/her ability. Please do not hesitate to contact me!
